It also includes how motivated they are to get the job done, how close they are to the company's values, and their willingness to collaborate and work as a team. As you can see, employee engagement is about much more than just whether they like their job or not.
Why is employee engagement critical?
Employee engagement is essential for many reasons. First, employee engagement and satisfaction go hand in hand. If your team members are unhappy with their roles, it will reflect on their work because they will feel a lack of motivation. When employees don't feel motivated, they don't perform well, which means low productivity.
If your employees are engaged, the workplace will become a more positive environment because people are happy to be there and be part of the team. 3 Ways to Keep Employees Engaged and Motivated
1. Encourage their personal development

Professional development is significant, but it is almost impossible without the encouragement of personal growth! To promote the personal development of your team members, get to know them personally in terms of their interests, hobbies, and passions outside of work. Consider whether other business areas are better suited to each employee based on their interests and aspirations or if there are additional responsibilities they would like to take on for their development.
Studying your employees can also help you determine which training programs will allow them to acquire new skills and competencies that will bring them personal and professional satisfaction.
2. Recognize and reward your team for their hard work
If employees are not recognized for their hard work, it is unlikely that they will have a strong drive to be productive or to excel at their job. If you don't feel like you're being seen or heard, you don't believe your work is vital. This becomes a negative domino effect because if you don't feel that the job you are doing is critical, your willingness to put in the effort will drop, affecting your work's quality.
Lack of recognition undoubtedly leads to alienation. To avoid this, ensure you recognize, reward, and celebrate your team for their hard work! There are several ways to accomplish this: verbal acknowledgment entails taking a few minutes to tell a team member how much you value their efforts. Pick a couple of positive characteristics from their work to make the interaction personal and meaningful.
For significant accomplishments, consider a career advancement, additional responsibilities, or an early end of the day to celebrate a win.
3. Equip employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed
To increase employee engagement, ensure you provide your team members with all the tools and resources available to help them be more productive and successful. Giving your team more tools and resources will make your group feel like they are gaining experience with new tools, software, and programs. It will also provide them with the ability to choose the means or resources that are best suited to fulfill their specific job duties and responsibilities.
After becoming familiar with your company's tools and resources, they may even need to create and add additional resources for other employees to take advantage of. As a manager, you are responsible for ensuring that your employees understand what they are doing and feel well-equipped to do their job well.
You can also improve productivity and overall employee engagement by offering more training programs on how to use specific tools or resources. Providing a solid foundation of resources and training your employees to succeed in their jobs is a great way to increase their engagement with the rest of the team and the organization.
There are so many different ways to increase employee engagement, and it has a lot to do with working on employee motivation, employee performance, employee satisfaction, and just feeling like part of a team.
Start by recognizing initiatives for personal development and creating a safe workplace. Conduct employee surveys to increase the engagement of your teams. Encourage team building and collaboration to make it clear that employees' thoughts, opinions, and contributions are highly valued. Recognize and reward your team for all their hard work, even if it means a quick message to say thank you and a job well done. Give your team members all the tools and resources available to them to succeed, and encourage them to be creative with the challenges they are given.
