While the primary responsibility for health and safety in the workplace falls on the employer, it is also the responsibility of the employee to help create a safe working environment. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 defines the general duties of everyone from employers and employees to business owners, managers, and more (e.g., maintainers of work premises) as maintaining health and safety within the workplace. In short, everybody is responsible in some way for workplace health and safety.
